Miss Colombia Paulina Vega is crowned Miss Universe 2014
It came down to the last five finalists (out of 88 contestants) – Miss USA Nia Sanchez, Miss Netherlands Yasmin Yerheijen, Miss Jamaica Kaci Fernell, Miss Colombia Paulina Vega and Miss Ukraine Diana Harkusha. The beautiful event, hosted in Florida International University, in the city of Doral, ended with Miss Colombia being crowned as the 2015 Miss Universe.

As a naturalized African American (originally from the Congo Democratic in Central Africa), I realized that this wonderful day (along with many others to come) could not have been possible if a certain group of people stood up for my future, knowing for sure that they might not get a taste of it as they confront unthinkable injustice and ideology rooted in the American society.
