Russia could not have gotten it better than today's awesome performance of its team for the opening of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The host nation delivered an amazing performance, beating its adversary Saudi Arabia 5 - 0. What an awesome debut for the Falcons.

Saudi Arabia just did not stand a chance against the host nation, which had to show up in front of its supporters, including President Putin. The game showcased a Russian team not at its best technically but equipped with strength and heart against a young inexperienced Saudi Arabian team. The host team delivered, and they delivered big time.
Awesome performance from the substitute Russian player who entered the game replacing an injured starter, ending up delivering the best performance so far for this tournament. Denis Cheryshev lit up the place with two great goals that will probably be among the best goal of the tournament.
The host team will now have to get ready for the next opponents, much harder than Saudi Arabia: Egypt and Uruguay. Until then, what a great start!
DID YOU KNOW: Russia's victory means that the host nation has never lost their opening match in any of the 21 editions of the FIFAWorld Cup (W16 D6 L0).
