African of the Week – Ejine Okoroafor – Ezediaro

EjineEjine Okoroafor was born and raised in Nigeria. She initially completed B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria before studying Medicine in the Ukraine. After the completion of her studies, she had relocated and practiced Internal Medicine in the United Kingdom until 2005 when she joined her now, ex-husband in the USA.

She currently lives in New York. She had since completed her Psychiatric residency program in Harlem Hospital Center, NY and is currently in a fellowship program with the NYMC-WCMC, Valhalla NY.

Ejine’s flair for prose and poetry was evident from childhood. She attributes her love for the literary arts to her mother, a dynamic Literature and French tutor who had kindled a great interest and love for reading books in her, right from a very early age.

Her academic and professional pursuit notwithstanding, She states that she had felt a curious void which only her passion for writing has begun to fill and now culminated in the publication of 4 books namely A Rose in Bloom, Pathos of a Wilting Rose, prequel and sequel respectively, Whimsical Rhapsody, a collection of poems as well as a children book, Inem’s Folklore series; The Tortoise and the Birds.

The major themes in her books are for the emancipation and equity of our society.

She had presented her books to the Nigerian public at Trans Hilton Hotel, Abuja on the platform of the Abuja Literary Society on March 9th 2012 and at the National Institute of International affairs, Lagos on March 16th 2012 with critical acclaim.

The author is an avid traveler, who had lived in 4 different countries and travelled to over 30 others. She notes that we are all similar in our needs and aspirations, with individual peculiarities and less diverse in cultures than usually credited.
