2019 African Gospel Awards festival (AGAFEST) Nomination Ceremony

On Friday, 11th January 2019, at Holiday Inn Hotel (Accra), the organizers of the AGAFEST announced the nominees for its maiden edition. The festival, which has four participants Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa, will take place on 8th March of this year at the Fantasy Dome Trade Fair in Accra, Ghana.

According to Prince MacKay, the Chief Executive Officer of AGAFEST, the nominations were made based on songs and performances released by gospel artistes from January 2017 to November 2018. Ghana tops the list of countries with the most nominations, by receiving 79 nominations; followed by Nigeria with 75 nominations. Joe Mettle, a Ghanaian multiple award-winning artiste and 2017 Vodafone Music Award Artist of the year, is the most nominated artiste of the festival having earned 10 nods. Just after him, in second position, comes Tim Godfrey the Nigerian getting 8 nominations. Dr. Tumi, the South African, having earned 6 nominations could secure for himself a third position in the list.

Many other artistes like Ghanaian gospel music icon Sonnie Badu, the legendary Benjamin Dube (South Africa), Diana Hamilton, Patience Nyarko, Nigerian gospel arts Nathaniel Bassey, Sinach, Eben, Frank Edwards and many other gospel musicians and groups, both contemporaries and olds, from Kenya and South Africa all have been nominated in several categories of the 2019 edition of AGAFEST.

In the non-competitive categories, which include Gospel Ministry of the Year and Gospel Organization of the Year, the organizers have already named Rebecca Malope (South Africa) as the winner of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Africa Gospel Awards Festival (AGAFEST) is an award event that aims to recognize and celebrate talents and hardworking gospel acts, ministry, mission projects, outreach and evangelism, charity works and any other works related to the propagation of the Gospel throughout the African continent.

The awards seek to find, encourage, motivate and inspire musicians and Christian activities, mission, evangelism outfits to aspire to attain excellence in their ministries and businesses and to be of better service to the Kingdom of God.

This year’s AGAFEST is under the theme “Africa under one God”. The event, which will last two days, will feature an Africa Gospel Business Summit on the first day and the Awards ceremony on Friday, which will be the second day.
