Africa’s Women’s Day is commemorated every July 31, marking the founding of the Pan‑African Women’s Organization in 1962, a key force in advancing women’s empowerment across Africa.
The Africa’s Women’s Day Awareness (AWD) initiative was launched in 2021 by Joy Zenz and Abigail Adaeze Chinonyerem Onii Egbunine, with wide volunteer and diaspora support.
2025 Theme & Significance
Theme: “Rooted in Greatness: Celebrating Women of African Descent”
As the AWD initiative reaches its 5th anniversary, the theme emphasizes unity across geographies—from Harlem to Kinshasa, Kingston to London—honoring women whose influence transcends borders.
The initiative uplifts leadership, heritage, and intercultural dialogue among African-descended communities globally.
