Jokes will be made about Neil Patrick Harris underwear moment, Lady Gaga clean look performance, and people will mention the amazing performance of the oscar-winning song “Glory” from Selma.
As a naturalized African American (originally from the Congo Democratic in Central Africa), I realized that this wonderful day (along with many others to come) could not have been possible if a certain group of people stood up for my future, knowing for sure that they might not get a taste of it as they confront unthinkable injustice and ideology rooted in the American society.
This year Miss Africa USA Pageant celebrates 10 years of empowering young women as Leaders and Goodwill Ambassadors. It’s a milestone, a history we are very proud of, having mentored over 2000 young women who have gone through the Pageant.
