Mohamed Salah is African Player of The Year 2017

Yes, He Did it! Egyptian football player Mohamed Salah has graved his name in African history after being crowned the 2017 African Player of the Year. The 25-year old Egyptian star humbly accepted his prize at the Alteo CAF Awards in Accra Ghana on January 4, 2018, in front of many African football legends.

Mohamed Salah wins African Player of the Year 2017

This award comes as no surprise to the African football community. Salah clearly captivated 2017 headlines while playing for English club Liverpool or Egypt national team (the Pharaohs). Without a doubt, he is also the main reason why Egypt is going back to the FIFA World Cup in Russia this year. The Pharaohs of Egypt also ended up winning the Best National Team of The Year award at the same event.

The ceremony was streamed live to millions across the world, with high profile attendees such as Ghana President Akufo-Addo, and FIFA General Secretary Fatma Samoura. The event also showcased amazing musical performances from African celebrities (Toofan, Fally Ipupa, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, Phyno and Flavour, and many more).

Salah was the top scorer for Egypt with five goals during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification, including both goals in the decisive 2–1 victory over Congo, one of which was a penalty in the last minute to make the Pharaohs reach their first World Cup finals since 1990.

As The Pharaohs prepare for the upcoming World Cup to take place in Russia this Summer, Salah will be the player to watch.

Salah is married to Magi since 2013. Together, they have a daughter named Makka (named after the holiest city in Islam) who was born in 2014. Salah speaks three languages: Egyptian Arabic, English, and Italian.
